Nose against the Grindhouse
By this late date, you will have heard all kinds of things about Grindhouse even if you haven’t seen it. It’s long. It’s gory. It’s pretty funny in parts. It is certainly the work of two men stuck in an idiot savant/prolonged adolescence that shows no sign of abating.
Nevertheless, I had a really fun time watching this movie, even as exhausted as I was by the 3-hour, 15-minute running time. The movie somehow made the urine in my body dry up, keeping me glued to my seat and not having to take bathroom breaks.
The movie is completely indefensible, but like a lot of movies I love, there were enough great small moments to vanquish all the negative. Yes, it’s a big, dumb, exploitation mash-up. But within those mashed potatoes are tiny bits of au grace.
