How I learned to procrastinate while writing about the bomb…
There’s not really a very good reason why we waited so long to address “24”‘s nuclear bombing of a California town, which happened quite a ways back in the current season. I tried to explain to PJ (who does not partake of the tortuous barbarian Jack Bauer) that in almost every season of the show, they’re chasing down a horrible weapon and diffuse it at the nick of time. This time, the thing goes off, creating one of the few genuine “Oh SHITS!” moments in TV history. The look on Jack’s face says it all.
I blame myself for being so shocked by the (albeit fictional) mass carnage that it has taken me this long to process it, move past the shock, and then throw it back to y’all as art. This whole artistic life is one of sacrifice, I tell you.
